How to get better at poker

Watching solver videos does not make you better. A loop does: learn the rules, take graded hands, name one leak, drill that exact class, then sit Live and see if the leak moved.

1. Learn the table

If you have never played: how to play Texas Hold’em, hand rankings, and starting hands. PokerGym School (Poker 101) is free and sits you on the same felt you will train on.

2. Take graded hands

Volume without a grade is just gambling with extra steps. Train grades each decision against EV. You do not import a tracker. Ten honest hands beat a hundred unreviewed ones.

3. Read one leak

A leak is a spot class — street, action, board texture — where you give up EV compared with the rest of your game. Not “VPIP is 2% off a baseline.” Fix the class that is costing chips.

4. Drill that class

The week’s focus on Train is one priority from your own hands. Free can run the focus drill. The full library is Pro.

5. Prove it Live

Same game, clock and ladder. Early tables are mostly labeled AI so you are not thrown to a shark pit. If the leak disappears on Live, it was real. If it doesn’t, you found the next drill.
