PLO poker guide

Four hole cards. Pot-limit. The nuts change every street. Hold’em instincts (any two, small pairs, naked overpairs) get you stacked. Here is the map, then the trainer.

The rules that change everything

You are dealt four hole cards and must use exactly two of them with three from the board. Betting is pot-limit — you cannot jam a tiny pot for 100bb on the flop the way you can in no-limit Hold’em.

Why a 13×13 grid does not work

Hold’em has 169 starting hands. PLO has thousands of four-card combos. We teach class tiers (double-suited rundowns, premium pairs with suits, trash) plus seat bias — not a 169 color grid.

The classic leaks

Overvaluing one pair. Chasing non-nut flushes. Ignoring reverse implied odds on wrap+flush boards. Playing too many unsuited disconnected hands from early position.

Practice in PokerGym

PLO Train is free. Class charts and a class quiz live under Ranges. Live PLO seats exist in Casual (playable, unrated). Specialty formats (bomb pot, short deck, deuces) are Pro Train labs.
